Electronic stethoscope

National ScrubsAn electronic stethoscope allows doctors and nurses to amplify, monitor, record and even e-mail sounds from their patients’ hearts, lungs, arteries and other areas of the body. These stethoscopes offer better acoustic performance than standard stethoscopes.

Electronic models allow doctors and nurses to adjust the volume when listening to a patient with faint heart or lung sounds. Electronic models are often operated by batteries, and are easy to adjust for sound quality. They differ from acoustic stethoscopes because they amplify the body sounds, offering increased acoustic performance.

Electronic models look like regular acoustic stethoscopes except for the control box located on the tubing portion. The control box allows doctors to adjust volume levels, capture sounds, and monitor the listening experience.

These stethoscopes are the wave of the future and might soon completely replace regular acoustic stethoscopes. They are a must-have tool for any modern medical practice.

Sanitary covers for the diaphragm and bell portions of the stethoscopes are available and should be used to maintain a cleaner and safer environment.

Electronic models, like standard acoustic stethoscopes, either contain a diaphragm or a bell. The diaphragm vibrates when there are sounds from the body, while the bell picks up vibrations from the skin.

One side of the disposable stethoscope is a flat membrane (the diaphragm or bell) that is pressed against the patient’s chest and picks up the sounds inside. The sounds are then carried through the tubing to the doctor or nurses’ ears. The electronic aspect of the stethoscope amplifies those sounds.
